FC Arizona made big news in the NPSL this past week, signing attacking midfielder Josh Doughty. Doughty brings an exciting skill-set and impressive resume to FC AZ, having spent three seasons with the Manchester United program and having competed in international tournaments.
Doughty is one of several recent signings, including midfielder Irving Garcia and defenders Luke VaVanway and Giovanny Vazquez, as owner Scott Taylor works to finalize his roster prior to the season opener less than a month away on February 23.
“Josh Doughty has played at some of the highest levels in the world,” Taylor said of the club’s major offseason acquisition. “I’m really excited to watch him play for us this season.”
Canadian-born but Arizona-raised, Doughty has played internationally for both the United States and Canadian national programs at the youth level. He believes his past playing experience will help ease the transition coming to FC AZ, but realizes the hard work is just beginning.
“I’m prepared for this, but holding each other accountable is the biggest thing on the team,” he said during the club’s photo shoot on Tuesday. “We need to make sure everyone is sharp in training and pushing each other to get better to hopefully have a great season.”
Doughty is particularly excited to return back to his home and play for the local club.
“I know the area, so it made it a lot easier of a decision on where to play,” he said. “You want to help the club where you grew up from to build it up, so it’s going to be a really cool experience.”
FC Arizona is less than month away from opening its season against ASC San Diego at Mesa Community College. Doughty is eager to step on the pitch as a club and provide an exciting season for the fans.
“Hopefully we can win everything we can,” he stated. “Spreading the name of the club and the competition is what I’m most excited for.”
