FC Arizona announced its coaching staff for the 2019 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season on Thursday, led by Head Coach Dr. Nicholas Markette.
A former Arizona Coach of the Year, Dr. Markette joins the club with decades of experience serving the local soccer community. His teams have won multiple high school and club state championships, and he has coached hundreds of players who have moved on to play in both the college and professional ranks. In addition to his coaching career, Dr. Markette is a published researcher specializing in high performing teams.
Dr. Markette has assembled an extraordinary staff, which brings years of playing and coaching experience in both domestic and international soccer to the third-year club, which will play at Mesa Community College once again this season.
Paul Rideout joins FC Arizona with a wealth of experience that includes a 23-year professional career in the English Premiere League, Serie A, and Chinese Pro League. His unique experiences include an FA Cup winning goal. Rideout’s coaching background includes leadership in the Sporting KC system and coaching elite youth at a local club.
David Shaffer brings a successful track record to FC Arizona having coached at nearly every level of soccer in the United States. In addition to his coaching background at the youth, college and professional ranks, he has played professionally for both international and domestic teams. Known for his creativity, Shaffer currently leads an elite youth team at a local club in Arizona.
Daniel Van Vleet will serve FC Arizona as the speed, strength and fitness coach. Van Vleet, a former coach with Arizona United, played locally at Corona del Sol High School where he won an Arizona High School State Championship. Following his successful high school career, he went on to play collegiately at Oregon State University. Currently, Van Vleet leads multiple local club soccer teams.
