FC Arizona took two big steps on Friday, signing goalkeeper Russ Klabough and midfielder Shane McFaul to its club for the upcoming NPSL season.
Klabough, an Arizona native, spent his previous two seasons playing with Reno 1868 of the United Soccer League. Upon graduating from Buena High School in Sierra Vista, AZ, he appeared in 28 games during his time at California State University Stanislaus in 2014 and 2015, finishing with a record of 13-4-4.
“At 6’5” Russ is a very athletic and physical presence between the pipes, and our fans are going to have fun watching him in shootout situations,” FC Arizona Owner Scott Taylor said. “He will be the anchor of the defense.”
Irish-born Shane McFaul has previously played for League One teams, Brighton and Notts County in England and comes to FC Arizona after spending a season with Mikkelin Palloilijat in Finland.
“Shane’s desire to be in Arizona and help us continue to build the club is exciting,” Taylor said. “He’s a creator on the pitch and fans are going to really enjoy watching him.”
Both players will begin play for FC Arizona this spring and will participate in the NPSL’s inaugural Founders Cup competition beginning in August, which will lead into a new higher-level league that will kick off in 2020.
