FC Arizona is thrilled to announce today the addition of a women's franchise, FC Arizona Women, set to compete in the Women’s Premier Soccer League in the 2019 season.
As the popularity of the sport continues to surge, the club believes that adding a women's side is an exciting opportunity for fans to watch high-level women's soccer at their local club. The team's inaugural season will kick off in May 2019 and feature doubleheaders with the women’s and men’s teams at Rigg's Stadium in Mesa.
FC Arizona owner Scott Taylor is enthusiastic about bringing women's soccer to Arizona. "With over half of the youth soccer population in Maricopa County being female, we are eager to add this aspect to the club and make it possible for fans watch the best local women’s talent on display."
In its 21st year, the WPSL is the largest women’s league in the world with more than 110 teams. Says commissioner Sean Jones, "We're excited to have FC Arizona in the league. They’ve had a good track record with their men's team, and we're looking forward to having them in the WPSL."
Tryouts will be $90, and the team plans to release more details about them and the coaching staff at a later date.
