FC Arizona takes on NPSL Rival Orange County

By FC Arizona, 04/18/18, 9:15AM MST

FC Arizona will return home once again to take on NPSL rival Orange County.

“Last season we had a great series (with) OC FC that both ended in draws and a playoff semi-final with Orange County.” Owner Scott Taylor said.

He said the series are always competitive.

“(It) should be a very exciting match up,” he said.

Jaime Olabarria, who was on the roster last year when Orange County eliminated FC Arizona 2-0 in the playoffs, said he is looking forward to the game.

“I think that both the guys from last year and our supporters are really looking forward to this game in order to get even with our last game versus them,” he said.

It will not be an easy win for either team, Olabarria added.

“They play really organized, 50-50s and second balls are going to be the clue in such a close game,” he said. “That´s why the players that we already lived this rivalry, we are spreading our excitement for Saturday to our newest additions to the team.”

Olabarria said the rivalry game against Orange County, which is 1-0-2 in league play, comes at the perfect time in the season, with FC Arizona coming off two wins, at Temecula FC and then a hard-fought 1-0 win against Riverside a week ago in their home away from home, Westwood High School in Mesa.

“We got some good results on the road, but more importantly, our first win at home,” he said. “The last two wins has elevated the moral of the team and we are ready to make our house really difficult for our rivals.”

The game will be played at 7 p.m. on April 21 at Mesa Community College's John D. Riggs Stadium.
