MESA, Ariz. (Thursday, March 2, 2017) -- Ahead of FC Arizona's home debut on Saturday, March 4 vs Real San Jose, the Valley's newest professional club announces the signing of Costa Rican forward Alejandro Aguilar, pending league approval.
Aguilar, who has been capped by the Costa Rican national team, has competed at the top tier in Costa Rica since 2011, when he made his first appearance for Alajuelense, one of the most successful teams in Costa Rica. In five years with the club, he appeared in 50 matches and scored seven goals. While on contract at Alajuelense, Aguilar had loan spells with Carmelita and Cartagines scoring a combined 18 goals in 55 appearances
"I am very thankful to God and FC Arizona that they have opened their doors to me," Aguilar said. "This team is very well setup for a great season and I will give it my best to help the team reach its goals. I want to take advantage of this moment to send a shout out to all of the soccer fans in Arizona and to encourage them to come out to all of our matches this season."
Aguilar, joins FC Arizona after competing for the United Soccer Leagues' Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the 2016 season. He made his debut for Costa Rica in an international friendly against Canada in 2013.
"Alejandro is a proven professional experienced goal scorer," said FC Arizona head coach, Aidan Davison. "Intelligent with and without the ball. Huge asset for our club."
FC Arizona's roster now stands at 19 players signed. Earlier, FC Arizona announced the signings of goalkeepers Andrew Weber and Vincent Pellegrino, defenders Jon Guse and Mo Salama, midfielders Jose Manuel Rivera, Dom Iovino, David Alton, Dominic Papa, Paul LaMarca, Mitch Garcia, David Paul, Ari Sanchez, Kenny McAvoy, Chris Ramsell, Jose Rodriguez, and Aaron Mendez, and forwards Cesar Mexia and Chris Sanchez.
FC Arizona will make its home debut on March 4 against Real San Jose at John D. Riggs Stadium on the campus of Mesa Community College at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets start at just $90 for children and students. Single-match tickets are on sale and FC Arizona is offering a special $5 ticket for any youth player who wears their youth soccer jersey on opening night.
