MESA, Ariz. (Wednesday, July 19, 2017) -- #1 FC Arizona will host #4 Orange County FC in the National Premier Soccer League West Region Semifinals on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Mesa Community College.
FC Arizona advanced to the semifinals after defeating Albion SC Pros, 3-1, in the quarterfinals at Mesa Community College on July 14. David Alton scored just four minutes into the match and Mo Salama added a second FC Arizona goal in the 11th minute. Albion cut the lead in half with a goal in the 20th minute. FC Arizona then extended the lead in the 37th minute with a Cesar Mexia goal.
FC Arizona qualified for the playoffs after an incredible regular season in which they went undefeated (12-0-4), won the Southwest Conference title, and conceded just three goals.
FC Arizona is coached by former international goalkeeper Aidan Davidson, who played professionally in England for 22 years. He appeared in more than 400 first team matches, which include spells in the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City.
The strength of the squad is in the defense, which is led by goalkeeper and 2015 Portland Timbers MLS Cup winner Andrew Weber (McClintock High School). Weber, along with local products Jose Rodriguez(Central High School), Dom Papa (Hamilton High School), Jon Guse (Hamilton High School), David Paul (Thunderbird High School), and Nebraska native Salama have allowed just three goals all season long.
The two previous matchups between FC Arizona and Orange County FC has resulted in two scoreless affairs. Orange County FC advanced to the semifinals following their 1-0 win over #5 Riverside Coras.
