MESA, Ariz. (Friday, June 30, 2017) -- The format for the 2017 NPSL Playoffs powered by Mitre has been announced.
All seeding throughout the 2017 NPSL Playoffs is determined by regular season points per game (PPG) and thanks to a strong regular season performance by FC Arizona (11-0-4 with a 2.4667PPG), the club is guaranteed a home playoff match on Friday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m.
Eight teams in the West Region will qualify for the 2017 NPSL West Region Playoffs. Three from FC Arizona's Southwest Conference, two from the Golden Gate Conference, two from the Northwest Conference, and one wildcard team that will be the top remaining PPG team.
The three conference champions will be seeded 1-3 by PPG and the wildcard team will be seeded 8th. The remaining four teams will be seeded 4-7 by PPG, regardless on conference.
The 2017 NPSL West Region Quarterfinals will be played July 14/15, and the semifinals will be played July 22. They West Region Final will take place July 29. Following this the 2017 NPSL National Semifinals will be held August 5 with the championship match played a week later on August 12.
As of today, Friday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m., FC Arizona would be the #1 seed. A win or tie on Sunday against Riverside Coras in the regular season season finale would give FC Arizona the #1 seed in the West Region and FC Arizona would host the #8 seed (wildcard) Albion SC Pros or Orange County FC.
There are other playoff scenarios where FC Arizona could finish as the #2, #3, or #4 seed. Those scenarios involve how Kitsap Soccer Club (Northwest Conference Division), CD Aguiluchos USA (Golden Gate Conference Division), and Riverside Coras finish the regular season.
The playoff picture will become much clearer following the conclusion of this weekend's matches. Regardless of what happens, FC Arizona will host a playoff match for sure on Friday, July 14 at 8:00 p.m.
