MESA, Ariz. (Saturday, July 17, 2017) -- Led by a Joaquin Gomez hat-trick, FC Arizona, Southwest Conference leaders, extended its undefeated streak to 14 matches following an impressive 7-0 victory over Corinthians USA in its final regular season home match at Mesa Community College.
With the victory, FC Arizona is 10-0-4 has now qualified for the National Premier Soccer League playoffs. The club has scored 42 goals while conceding just three goals.
The action started early for FC Arizona with a 5th minute goal from George Jermy on a Alejandro Aguilar cross. FC Arizona doubled its lead in the 15th minute on another cross-and-header this time from Paul LaMarca to Joqauin Gomez.
The third goal was scored in the 29th minute when Gomez played a through ball to Ari Sanchez. He took a touch and calmly slotted home the shot. Aguilar scored the fourth goal in the 32nd minute from a David Paul cross.
It didn't take long in the second half to score again as Gomez dribbled down the left side and cut in to his right. He dribbled through two defenders and fired a curler into the far netting. In the 67th minute, second half substitute David Alton dribbled into the box and played a square ball to Gomez. His shot hit the post and Jermy was there for the rebound with an easy tap in.
The final goal was scored in the 85th minute on a brilliant effort from Gomez for his third goal and the first ever hat-trick in FC Arizona's history. This was also Gomez's first start for FC Arizona.
